o Abstract

Phosphorylase kinase regulates the breakdown of glycogen phosphorylase by phosphorylation. It is regulated allosterically by Ca2+ as well as phosphorylation by PKA in response to various external signals. Other substrates can be phosphorylated in vitro, but it is not know if there are any physiologically relevant ones. It is found in all mammalian tissues, and has been described in other organisms such as fish and insects.
